Find your way around the code you generated.
WalkMyCode turns a project into a map you can walk through: pages, API routes, logic, database and outside services, with the real links between them. Click anything and ask what it does. Your own AI app explains, and the map lights up as it talks.
Works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop and any app that speaks MCP. No account, nothing to sign up for.
/api/login. The route calls signin(), which finds the user, checks the password and starts a session. (components/LoginForm.tsx:14)Open a folder. See the map. Ask.
You made an app with an AI and now can't find your way around it. WalkMyCode reads it the way a good lecturer would, then walks you through it at your pace.
Open a folder
Tell your AI app "open WalkMyCode on my project", or pick the folder on the start page. Several folders that make one system become one map.
~/code/my-app”See the map
Every page, route, function and table, in five lanes, with the real links between them, found in the code itself and checked against it.
POST /account/signout → sessionsAsk, trace, take a tour
Click a card, select some lines, type or just say your question. The guide answers in plain English, points at real lines, and lights the map as it goes.
A guide, not a search box.
Every answer points at the lines it came from. Click one and the code opens there.
▦A map by layer
Pages and components, API routes, logic, database, outside services. One app, a monorepo, or several services found from docker-compose and Kubernetes files.
⟶Trace it, end to end
From a button to the table it writes, hop by hop, each step with the line that proves it.
?Explain anything
A card, a file or a few selected lines: what it does and how it fits, for a beginner. Paste a screenshot of an error and ask about it.
▶Guided tours, read aloud
Ask for a tour of a feature: each step lights its lines and cards while the guide reads it out.
◉Talk to it
Tap Talk and ask out loud, as you would a person. Pause to think; it waits for the whole question.
◇Diagrams you can move
Ask for a diagram and get one drawn from the code: drag it, zoom it, open it full-window.
Two minutes, and your own AI does the explaining.
WalkMyCode for Claude is free. The explaining runs on the AI app you already use, on your own plan: no API key, no account here.
Arriving this week. The package is being published to npm; these commands work as soon as it is out.
Claude Code
Needs Node.js 20 or later.
- Add WalkMyCode once, for all your projects:
claude mcp add -s user walkmycode -- npx -y walkmycode-mcp@latestOn Windows:claude mcp add -s user walkmycode -- cmd /c npx -y walkmycode-mcp@latest
- In any project, ask Claude: “open WalkMyCode on this project”. The map opens in your browser.
Claude Desktop Coming soon
A one-click extension: download it, double-click, then say “open WalkMyCode on ~/code/my-app”.
Download for Claude DesktopAny other MCP app
Add a stdio server that runs this command, then ask your app to “open WalkMyCode on ~/code/my-app”. Your app's model does the explaining.
From a terminal
No AI app? Run it on a folder: it maps it and opens the page, which answers with the AI key you add in its Settings (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, DeepSeek, xAI, or a local Ollama or LM Studio).
Your code stays yours.
The map is built on your computer. Only what a question needs goes to the AI you chose, and nothing comes to us.
| The map | Built by a parser on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to build it. |
|---|---|
| A question | The question and the lines needed to answer it go to your AI app (Claude, on your plan), or to the one provider whose key you added. With a local model, nothing leaves at all. |
| Secrets | .env files, *.pem and *.key are never read. Example config files are read for service addresses, with anything that looks like a password hidden. |
| Voice | Off unless you use it. Text read aloud and what you say go to the voice service you pick, on your key; your browser's own voice sends nothing anywhere. |
| The page | Served from 127.0.0.1 only, with a key in its link for each launch. Maps and answers are kept in ~/.walkmycode on your computer. |
Free, under an open-source licence.
WalkMyCode for Claude costs nothing: the explaining runs on the AI app you already use. It is licensed under the AGPL-3.0.
